What we've been up to. By Kathryn

Updated: Jul 22, 2019

Below is an article from Kathryn (one of our tutors) that she posted on social media talking about how things have been since starting to work for Wings.

I’m not one for newsletters or big forms of communication, but we moved away almost a year ago and thought it would be nice to let you all know what it’s been like.

We are now fully immersed in our jobs. Andy as the Operations manager at Wings South West and me as a Academy tutor (youth worker). It’s mixed roles for both of us, but our work is centered around bringing hope to young people not in education or training. These young people have encountered trials no one should have to deal with and it’s heart breaking. We help to build resilience, create a stable environment and along the way teach maths and English functional skills. It’s challenging, fun, engaging and so busy!!

Andy is busy at his desk with the finances and at the business end of things. He gets his hands greasy heading up a course on car mechanics and fixes pretty much everything. Good old British Airways for all those years fixing aircraft and problem solving.

Our charity is diverse in reaching many areas of the community and a midweek highlight for me is a day working with adults with additional needs, most of whom have Down Syndrome . This is a new venture for me, but is so delightful. A day of laughter, creative learning, and amazing new friendships.

We are blessed to have these jobs, it’s great fun but mostly we get to show young people hope. We get to unfold a future that is promised to them and trust that goodness and mercy will follow them all the days of their lives.
